Opnext announces the HL6388MG red laser diode for use in miniature display applications

Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ:OPXT), a producer of state-of-the-art laser technology, has announced the availability of the HL6388MG laser diode for use in miniature display applications. This new laser diode expands Opnext's addressable market by accelerating the commercialization of the miniature display market. The new diode has excellent color reproducibility because of its high monochromacity and can be built into next generation miniature display systems, including those in personal computers, mobile phones and other mobile equipment, making it possible to get an image of information anytime, anywhere.

"Our customers expect the best quality and reliability from our products and we expect the best from our suppliers," said Dr. Jay Wiesenfeld from Bell Labs Business development at Alcatel-Lucent.
"The Opnext HL6388MG diode delivers the performance we need for our latest laser based microprojectors."

"Opnext is dedicated to developing products to meet the latest market needs, such as the miniature display market," said Tadayuki Kanno, senior vice president Device Business Unit, Opnext.
"This new red-laser diode can improve color reproducibility in the display of a mobile phone or other portable device, which, in turn, helps our customers deliver new applications in the miniature display market."

"Opnext's HL6388MG diode has the necessary output power, the high efficiency and the reliability we require to differentiate Explay's mobile projectors from our competitors," said Golan Manor, EVP Product Strategy at Explay, developer of the world's smallest footprint and highest quality mobile projection engine.

This 5.6mm small packaged laser diode with multimodal distribution and multilasing wavelength spectrum allows for 250mW continuous wave operation. The HL6388MG incorporates a smaller 5.6mm package while still retaining the high reliability of the product. The output power of the laser diode has been aggressively developed in order to achieve an upgraded image brightness for display applications.
